Installation of a Bell tower in Saint-Jérôme and near Lake Paul, Mille-Isles

Hello everyone,

There seems to be some confusion regarding the role of our Municipality and the location of a telecommunication tower near Lake Paul. Let me explain as clearly as possible the reality that is imposed on us and the options available to us.

Firstly, the Supreme Court of Canada determined that despite the exclusive jurisdiction of municipalities and cities over the management of their territory, the implementation of a telecommunication tower, with regard to the site and its standards, remains under federal jurisdiction and takes precedence over municipal powers.

However, since June 16, 2016, a law requires telecommunications companies to consult the municipalities affected by their projects in order to mitigate the impacts on health and the environment of the sector. Yet, when Videotron wanted to set up their tower in Mille-Isles several years ago, this law was not in force. I invite you to read the Supreme Court of Canada decision for all the details.

In this context, the Municipality of Mille-Isles is taking all the means at its disposal so that the Bell project causes the least damage to the environment of the Lake Paul sector and to its citizens. Essentially, we are asking for a new analysis so that other sites can be proposed that would less affect the Lake Paul area and allow Bell to meet its objectives.

Under my mandate, as with my predecessor, I have always acted in the collective interest of all citizens. Protecting our environment and respecting each other guide my desire to be at your service in order to maintain a community where life is fulfilling.

Thank you.
