Good neighbor, good eye

WHAT IS “GOOD NEIGHBOR, GOOD EYE”?

This is the new slogan for community outreach by Neighbourhood Watch Committees. This rapprochement is essentially based on collaboration between the Sûreté du Québec and the committees in prevention activities aimed at preventing certain problematic situations in their neighbourhood. It relies on the mobilization of citizen groups who, in conjunction with their local police, develop ways to prevent break-ins, incivilities, and other issues of concern to neighbourhood residents.

Citizens can set up a Neighbourhood Watch Committee and, with the assistance of a police officer, identify key concerns and then develop an action plan, providing prevention tools where possible.

Many experiences show that concerted action by citizens and police officers can help prevent and reduce crime. Therefore, getting closer to one’s community by participating in Neighbourhood Watch committees means improving the quality of life and the sense of security of citizens.
